Welcome to Club Clue

Agnes Wright is a journalist just out of college ready to take a break. She'd been planning to take some time off to get her bearings before things get busy again, and hopefully spend some quality time with her boyfriend, world's nerdiest punk (or punkiest nerd?) Nick Edwards. That is, until her old friend Juniper Hawthorne calls her in a panic about a potential kidnapping!

Juniper is a marine biologist who used to go to the same weekly transfem picnic as Agnes, until she moved away to pursue a research opportunity in Alaska. The head of Juniper's lab, Dr. Francois Summerlin, has gone missing under suspicious circumstances, and the police are oddly reluctant to investigate. Has someone been trying to silence Dr. Summerlin's research? What could she have discovered? Juniper's not sure, but she knows the lab isn't safe until the perpetrator is caught.

Agnes will need all her investigative skills to solve this one, but she won't be doing it alone. She's got Nick backing her up with his hacking skills and cryptography knowledge, and she's called in additional support from her arch rival college classmate Shannon Danvers, a PhD. student in forensic toxicology (who is trying really hard not to think about why she agreed to help Agnes). Together, this trio of intrepid sleuths is determined to find Francois and bring her kidnapper to justice. Club Clue is on the case! (edited)

What is this?

Have you ever wondered what if Nancy Drew games were gayer and trans-er and indie-er?  This is that game! With unique characters, we hope to craft compelling narratives and gameplay based on issues that are important to us.

This point-and-click mystery demo as made for the Trans Representation Jam 2025. It's an attempt to show what we were able to make in around two months while juggling full time work and other responsibilities.  This was made using Godot, EgoVenture, and Dialogic.

Who are we?

Orion is an engineer and writer with 3 years of industry experience and 5 years of hobbyist experience.  He is a disabled and neurodivergent trans guy who wants to make his games as accessible as possible. For this project, Orion has focused on the programming, the logistics, the environmental art, and the UI design.

Annie is an AuDHD trans woman writer/engineer/artist. She's been in the software biz for 9 years now, but this is her first foray into game development. She's also worked in a variety of scientific fields over the years, including marine ecology, and is excited to get to draw on this background while writing this mystery. For this project, Annie has focused on the narrative, character art, and background research.

Controls

  • Left Click - this is the main way of interacting with the game! When the cursor changes images, you can left-click to interact
  • Escape - opens the main menu
  • Right click - When you have an item grabbed from the inventory, you can right click the inventory panel to put it back.

What's Next?

After completing the Trans Representation Jam (yay!) we will probably take a week off before hitting the ground running.  We would like to overhaul the demo with the goals of:

  • Making the experienced as polished as possible, to represent what the final game could look like.
  • Make the demo as accessible as we can, with a one-button control scheme option, and a text to speech option
  • Add a phone feature so that Agnes can call for help!

Once we have a polished demo, we will launch a crowdfunding campaign! We would love to be able to:

  • Hire sensitivity readers for the identities we don't represent
  • Hire voice actors for the identities we don't represent
  • Hire QA testers focused on disability experiences beyond our own
  • Hire a musician to make a soundtrack as unique as our story
  • Hire a marketer/community manager to help our game reach as far as possible
  • Put food on the table for us and our two lizards and puppy, while being able to focus more of our time on the game

For now, you can find us on Bluesky!

This was really fun; I'll be keeping an eye out for the crowdfunding campaign!

Thank you!!

I've played a lot of Nancy Drew, so everything felt really intuitive to me! The only glitch I encountered was doing the tutorial after finishing the demo made it do I couldn't pull up the menu anymore. Otherwise, I think its a great start! Good luck, and I hope we get to see a finished product eventually :D

Thank you so much! I'll make sure to fix that!

Okay, I enjoyed what I've played so far, though I didn't realise in the opening bit that I had to click after the narration disappeared to go from the background picture to the next bit.  But I figured it out after waving my cursor around for a bit.  I do like the pink blocks for moving around; kind of surprised you didn't make them the colours of the trans flag, tbh, to add to the theme of the jam?  But that might've been distracting for others, and I'm no graphic designer, so you shouldn't listen to my suggestions about that, lol.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the full game being released, even though I got through the demo WAY too quickly.  I must be a better detective than I realised.  I collected the red USB stick (I'm guessing that's what it is).  As a Nancy Drew game fan, I'm always excited about anything new being added to the detective game genre.  I've also been reading a book about mysterious disappearances at the moment, so it feels kind of topical.

Thank you so much for the feedback!

We're looking to polish the demo before any crowdfunding campaign, so I'll definitely include your comments! I will especially make sure that the transition from the background image to the game play is more clear!
